Precautions of buying a diesel generator
- May 17, 2018 -

The main power of a diesel generator is also called continuous power or prime power. In China, the main power is generally used to identify diesel generators. In the international market, standby power, also known as maximum power, is used to identify diesel generator sets. Many manufacturers on the market will use maximum power as continuous power to introduce and sell their gensets, which causes many users misunderstand these two concepts.

Diesel generators are nominally rated as primary power, we also called continuous power in our country. Prime power means the maximum power that a diesel generator can continuously use within 24 hours. However, within a certain period of time, theoretically, 1 hour can be overloaded by 10% on a continuous power basis within every 12 hours.  The power at this time is what we usually call, the maximum power, it is also called standby power

In other words, if you purchase a unit with a prime power of 400kw, then you can operate to 440kw for 1 hour in 12 hours.

If you purchased a unit with a standby power of 400kw, and you normally run at 400kw. You think that it does not exceed standby power, but in fact the diesel generators are constantly on overload (Since prime power of this generator is only 360kw in practice).

This is very detrimental to the generator, because it will shorten the life of the generator and increase the damage rate.
